Supporting Public Safety and Coastal Science at the Same Time
In March 2024, new water level monitoring stations were installed in the Bayside community near Chocowinity and in the town of Belhaven, North Carolina through a partnership between SECOORA, Beaufort County Emergency Services, North Carolina Emergency Management, and the North Carolina Sea Grant.
Green Stream was proud to support this collaboration between coastal scientists and emergency management organizations working to improve situational awareness in these beautiful but flood-prone coastal communities.
Both communities experience recurring roadway flooding that can isolate neighborhoods and impact emergency access. Real-time water level monitoring helps local officials anticipate conditions, monitor rising water, and make proactive decisions during flood events.
“We will be able to shift from being reactive to proactive because of these gauges.”
— Lynn Davis, Belhaven Town Manager
